Its the first Friday of June, do you know what that means? It’s National Doughnut Day. The 72nd National Doughnut Day! If you want to thank the carbohydrate-lover who came up with this special way to mark the calendar, look beyond the donut shops to the Salvation Army. National Doughnut Day was founded by the Chicago Salvation Army in 1938 to help the needy during the Great Depression and to honor the women who served doughnuts to soldiers in World War 1, according to Salvation Army officials. Donation will be made to the Salvation Army to help recovering veterans. What’s more fun than having an excuse of eating a delicious lightweight and non-greasy donut at the Donut Den! See you here today! We have National Donut Day T-Shirts LIMITED EDITION, help join the movement, by purchasing a shirt, besides it looks cool! Available in Navy Blue Small to X-Large. FREE SHIPPING!
National Donut Day is on the first Friday of June each year and follows on the Donut Day event created by the Salvation Army in 1938 to honor the women who served donuts to soldiers during World War I.[1] The holiday celebrates the doughnut (a.k.a “donut”) — an edible, ring-shaped piece of dough which is deep-fried and sweetened. Many American doughnut stores offer free doughnuts on National Doughnut Day. In 2009, both independent doughnut shops[2] and large national franchises offered free doughnuts in the United States. Letter of the Day: Thankful to live in the USPosted: 09/09/2009 08:29:02 PM PDT
Thankful to live in the US I would never miss or be late for morning roll call at the Donut Den on Pacific Coast Highway in Torrance. We have a special “gang” meeting there and have solved most of the world’s problems. One of our loyal members is Margo from Mexico and last week some of us went to the Los Angeles Convention Center to see Margo and 3,500 others take the oath to become citizens. It was a very impressive ceremony and most heartwarming to see the big smiles and tears of joy as Lee Greenwood sang “I’m glad to be an American where at least I know I’m free .” It seems like we have become so critical of our politicians, the economy, health insurance, etc. I would like to challenge you to join me in sitting quietly for five minutes and count our blessings along with these new citizens. The U.S.A. is still a mighty good place to hang our hats. - George Key, Palos Verdes Estates Hello customers, please provide us with you honest opinion about our store and service.Thank you.http://www.yelp.com/biz/donut-den-no-2-torrance |
